Do these work for a castles topic or World Book Day?

Yes: knights and dragons suit a castles or medieval history topic and St George's Day, and they work for World Book Day when your child pairs them with a book. In England, the Key Stage 2 history curriculum includes "a study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils' chronological knowledge beyond 1066" (Department for Education), and a castles topic is one way to cover it. There are plenty to visit, too: English Heritage lists more than 100 castles, forts, and defences you can visit, and Wales has more than 400 castles still standing or in ruins.

World Book Day 2027 is on Thursday 4 March 2027, and knight or dragon fancy dress works as long as your child can name a book with one in it. The charity's guidance to schools is that dressing up should be "inclusive, affordable and optional" (World Book Day). St George's Day on 23 April is a natural fit too, since the legend has a knight facing a dragon. How do they fit, and how do you wash them?

Each kids' costume here has its own size range: start with your child's age where the page gives one, then check the size guide against their height. Every costume goes through over 30 measurement checks. All of our kids' products are safety tested by accredited labs.

• Between sizes? Go up one. The product pages for the medieval knight, the king knight, and the hooded dragon all say so, and it leaves room to move.
• Cold day? Add a plain long-sleeved top underneath. The red dragon jumpsuit, the hooded Kids Dragon Costume, and the king knight tunic all take a layer without spoiling the fit.
• Washing. The fabric costumes here take a cold hand wash, then dry flat in the air; remove any detachable pieces first (tail, mask, wings, or feet covers, depending on the costume). The ride-on dragon takes a sponge wipe with the fan pack removed.
