A kids astronaut costume needs four things: a white suit, a helmet, gloves, and something over the shoes. Our Boys Astronaut Costume packs all four in one bag: a jacket, trousers, a helmet with a mesh visor, gloves, and boot covers. Grown-ups want the look too: adult styles made up nearly two in three of the astronaut costumes sold on our UK site between 23 April and 25 October 2026, counting our alien-and-astronaut pick-me-ups.

Kids come first; the two adult suits follow. For the rest of the class list on book day, see our guide to the best World Book Day costumes for kids.

What do you need for a kids astronaut costume?

You need a suit, a helmet, gloves, and boot covers, so check the pack list: some packs carry all four, others pair a jumpsuit with a cap for an easier school day. Build it in this order:

  1. Suit first. A white jacket and trousers, or one jumpsuit, with straps and badges doing the detail.
  2. Then the helmet. A hard shell with a visor wins the photo; a cap is easier to wear through a school day.
  3. Then hands and feet. Gloves and boot covers turn trainers into moon boots, so no new shoes.
  4. Size last. Check height as well as age, and leave room for a jumper underneath.

The table shows which of our kids costumes cover each piece, from the product pages checked on 26 October 2026.

Which kids astronaut costume should you choose?

Choose the Boys Astronaut Costume if you want every piece in one bag, and one of the other three if the age range, a one-piece jumpsuit, or a sound chip matters more. For other role-play outfits, browse our kids uniform costumes.

Boys Astronaut Costume: the whole kit in one bag

The Boys Astronaut Costume comes as the full set. The bag holds a white jacket with printed patches, matching trousers, a structured helmet with a mesh visor, gloves, and boot covers; the suit is 100% polyester. Sizing goes by age and height.

Boys NASA Astronaut Costume: four sizes, up to 14 years

The Boys NASA Astronaut Costume runs from age 4 to 14 across four sizes, the widest spread of the kids astronaut suits in this guide. Its pack holds a white logo-print jacket, trousers, a helmet, gloves, and black-trimmed boot covers. Want a clear visor that snaps shut? Our Kids Astronaut Helmet adds one, with an adjustable chin strap. It runs small and snug, so measure a bigger head first, and it is a toy made for pretend play, so treat the visor as part of the look.

Kids Astronaut Costume: a child giving a thumbs up in a white all-in-one astronaut jumpsuit with badges, black straps and belt, and a matching white cap

Kids Astronaut Costume: a jumpsuit for a long school day

The Kids Astronaut Costume is one white jumpsuit with attached badges and black trim, plus a matching baseball cap. One piece means no jacket to lose at playtime. It comes in two sizes for ages 4 to 9. The cap lasts a whole day at a desk; for photos, add our Kids Astronaut Space Helmet, sold on its own.

Kids Astronaut With Soundchip Inflatable: the one that talks back

The Kids Astronaut With Soundchip Inflatable puffs your child up into a spaceman with a laser gun attached and a sound chip built in. A fan on four AA batteries, bought separately, keeps it up for over four hours, and elasticated seals round the openings help keep the air in. One size fits most kids from 120 to 155 cm tall (3ft 11in to 5ft 3in). Got a sibling who would rather be the alien? Our guide to kids inflatable alien costumes has the abduction illusions.

What can the littlest crew member wear?

Babies and toddlers can come as the alien: the kids astronaut suits in this guide start at age 4, but the alien tabard below starts at 6 months. Every astronaut needs someone to meet on the planet.

Boys Alien Plush Tabard Costume: a toddler in a bright green fluffy alien tabard with a darker green swirled belly and a hood with three big eyes and antennae

Boys Alien Plush Tabard Costume: new to our range, sized from 6 months

The Boys Alien Plush Tabard Costume is new to our range. It is a tabard in fleece-like plush with a swirled belly, topped by a 3D hood with three big eyes and antennae. It comes in B1 (6 months to 1 year), T1 (1 to 2 years), and T2 (3 to 4 years).

When do kids wear astronaut fancy dress?

Kids wear astronaut fancy dress for World Book Day, school space topics, birthday parties, and Halloween. Our own UK sales rose towards Halloween: kids' styles made up about one in eight of the astronaut costumes we sold from 23 April to 31 July 2026, and about half from 1 to 25 October 2026, counting our alien-and-astronaut pick-me-ups.

Bar chart: kids' styles made up 13% of the astronaut costumes sold on morphsuits.co.uk from 23 April to 31 July 2026, 40% in August and September, and 51% from 1 to 25 October 2026, counting alien-and-astronaut pick-me-ups
  • World Book Day. The next one is Thursday 4 March 2027, according to World Book Day. Pair the suit with a space story; our kids World Book Day costumes cover the rest of the shelf.
  • School space topics. Earth and space sits in Year 5 of the science curriculum in England, where pupils learn how the Earth and other planets move around the sun, per the national curriculum.
  • The news. Artemis II flew four astronauts around the Moon in April 2026, the first crew to travel there in more than half a century, the space agency reports.
  • Birthday parties and Halloween. Space is a theme every guest can dress to, as the astronaut or as the alien.

In a 2019 survey of 3,000 children aged 8 to 12 in the UK, the US, and China, 86% said they were interested in space exploration, according to The Harris Poll for the LEGO Group.

Which astronaut costumes work for adults?

Our two adult picks are a white spacewalk-style jumpsuit and an inflatable jetpack. Artemis Moon crews wear orange for launch and landing, so they are easy to spot in the ocean, and spacewalkers wear white, because the white outer layer reflects heat from the sunlight, as the space agency's spacewalk spacesuit guide explains. Other jobs, from pilot to police, sit in our adult uniform costumes.

Men's Astronaut Jetpack Inflatable Costume: ride the rocket

The Men's Astronaut Jetpack Inflatable Costume is the funny end of the mission. In the product photo, the wearer becomes an astronaut riding a white rocket, with printed flames below and their own head and arms free. The fan and battery pack take four AA batteries, bought separately, and last over four hours; there is a pocket too. One size fits most adults.

Mens Astronaut Suit Costume White: a man in sunglasses wearing a white full-length astronaut jumpsuit with black straps, a buckled belt, and mission-style badges

Mens Astronaut Suit Costume White: spacewalk white, S to XXL

The Mens Astronaut Suit Costume White zips up the front as one piece. Woven badges give it the mission detail, the shoulders are padded, and buckled belts on adjustable straps let you set the fit. Sizes run S to XXL. Add our Steampunk Ray Gun Prop, 10 inches long in silver, black, and gold, for a retro sci-fi crew member. Going as a pair? Our guide to adult alien costumes has your partner covered, and our space-age fancy dress guide takes the theme back to the 70s.

How do you get the size right?

Size a kids astronaut costume by age and height, an adult suit by clothing size, and go up a size whenever the wearer sits between two. Each product page carries its own size details:

How do you wash an astronaut costume?

Hand wash a fabric astronaut costume in cool water and let it air dry flat; all seven costumes in this guide are hand wash only. A few pieces need more:

  • Helmets: wash the fabric pieces apart from the helmet; spot clean the Kids Astronaut Helmet and never soak it.
  • Inflatables: take the batteries out first (and the fan unit, where it comes out), let it air dry fully, then deflate it and store it.
  • Props: the Steampunk Ray Gun Prop is spot clean only.

After Halloween, store the helmet apart from the folded suit, and the kit is ready again for book day in March.

Frequently asked questions

What do you need for a kids astronaut costume?

You need a white suit, a helmet, gloves, and boot covers. Our Boys Astronaut Costume has all four in the pack; with a cap pack, add a kids astronaut helmet for photos.

Does an astronaut costume come with a helmet?

Some do, so read the pack list. Our Boys Astronaut Costume and Boys NASA Astronaut Costume include a helmet; our Kids Astronaut Costume has a cap instead, and our two kids helmets are sold on their own.

What age is a kids astronaut costume for?

The kids astronaut suits in this guide cover ages 4 to 14. For under-4s, our Boys Alien Plush Tabard Costume runs from 6 months to 4 years, so a toddler can come as the alien.

Why are some astronaut suits orange and others white?

Orange is the launch-and-landing colour for Artemis Moon crews, chosen so astronauts are easy to spot in the ocean, and white is for spacewalks. The space agency's spacesuit pages say the white outer layer of a spacewalk suit reflects heat from the sunlight.

How long does an inflatable astronaut costume stay inflated?

Over four hours. Both inflatable astronauts in this guide, kids and adult, run a fan on four AA batteries, bought separately, with elasticated seals that help keep the air in.

Can you wash an astronaut costume?

Yes, by hand only. Fabric suits take cool water and an air dry flat; on an inflatable, take the batteries out first and let it air dry fully before you store it.
