A Morphsuit is an all-in-one spandex suit that covers you from head to toe in a single colour or design, with a face panel you can see out of and breathe through. We invented it in Edinburgh in 2009, which is why the word "Morphsuit" became shorthand for the whole category of full-body fancy dress costumes. Ours is the original: every design is tested across 30+ measurements so it actually fits, and it is made from 125GSM+ breathable spandex so you can wear it all night.

What a Morphsuit actually is
One piece, head to toe, no gaps. A Morphsuit is a one-colour or one-design spandex costume that covers your whole body, including your hands, feet and face, and zips up the back. The face panel is the clever bit: it is opaque enough that people cannot easily make out who is underneath, and open-weave enough that you can see out clearly and breathe without trouble.
The garment type has a proper name, the zentai suit, but almost nobody searches for that. They search for a Morphsuit, because we are the brand that brought the all-in-one suit to the fancy dress aisle and the name stuck to the whole category. So when people ask what a Morphsuit is, the honest answer is that it is both a thing and a brand: the original full-body costume, and the company that makes it.
It works because it is so simple. There is nothing to assemble, no mask to keep falling off, no separate gloves to lose. You step in, zip up, and you are a solid wall of colour at a party, a stag do, a five-a-side stand or a festival field.
Who invented the Morphsuit
We did, in 2009, in Edinburgh. Three friends, Fraser Smeaton, Ali Smeaton and Gregor Lawson, started the company after a one-colour costume party in Dublin where a mate turned up in a full-body spandex suit and spent the whole night being bought drinks and posing for photos. They worked out the costume aisle was missing something, and the Morphsuit was the answer.
The start was about as unglamorous as it gets. The first batch was 200 suits, shipped from the founders' flat in May 2009, according to the brand's entry on Wikipedia. That first year we sold 20,000 of them and turned over 1.2 million pounds, and the all-in-one suit went from a daft idea to a genuine costume craze. The full story, including the bits we are less proud of, is on our story page. If you have ever wondered whether MorphCostumes is a legitimate brand, the short version is that we have been designing costumes from the same city ever since.
Can you see, breathe and drink through it?
Yes to all three, which is the question we get asked more than any other. You can see out clearly through the face panel while others cannot easily see in, and the 125GSM+ breathable spandex means you can breathe normally even with the hood up. The fabric is woven to move air, not trap it, so a full night in one does not leave you gasping.

Drinking through it is the party trick. The weave is fine enough that you can sip a drink straight through the face panel, though we will be honest and say a straw makes it far less messy. When you want a proper drink, or a bite to eat, the hood pulls back off your face in a second and sits behind your head, then goes back up when you are ready. What is in the pack is just the suit itself, one piece, so there is nothing extra to set up and nothing to lose on the way out the door.
How a Morphsuit is made to fit and last
A cheap full-body suit is where the category falls down: thin see-through fabric, a fit that bags at the knees, a back seam that gives up halfway through the night. We build against exactly that. Every Morphsuit design clears 30+ measurement checks against our size charts, so it is true to size rather than a one-shape-fits-nobody guess, and the whole range runs through more than 500,000 quality checks a year before it reaches you.

That sits on top of the Morph Promise, the four things we commit to on every order: no costume fails, designs that flatter, party-long comfort and no unwanted surprises. The solid-colour Morphsuit range is where most people start, in everything from classic black to a bright blue, and a group all in different colours is still one of the best-value group fancy dress looks going. Pick a colour, check the size guide on the product page, and size up if you are between two sizes.

Yes. You can see out clearly through the face panel while others cannot easily see in, and the 125GSM+ breathable spandex lets you breathe normally with the hood up. You can sip a drink through the fabric too, though a straw keeps it tidy, and the hood pulls back off your face when you want to eat.
A zentai suit is the generic full-body spandex garment; a Morphsuit is our branded version of it, built as a costume with a see-out face panel and a proper size range. The difference that matters is the build: 30+ measurement checks per design and over 500,000 quality checks a year, rather than the thin, badly-fitted stuff sold by no-brand sellers.
Just the suit, in one piece. There is no mask to attach, no gloves to lose and nothing to assemble, so what is on the page is what arrives. Check the size guide on each product page for your chest, waist and height before you order.
So that is a Morphsuit: the original all-in-one suit, invented in Edinburgh in 2009, built to see out of, breathe in and wear all night. Pick your colour from the solid-colour Morphsuit range and we will make your next event a good one.
