The wig is long and curly, it's one size and made from 100% polyester, and it fits most adults straight out of the pack. Our own product notes suggest a couple of kirby grips underneath if you're out all night, and that's a job for before you leave, not for a pub mirror at ten. Hand wash only and air dry, never the machine.

A long, straight, no-fringe black wig leaves the dress as the loudest thing you're wearing and hands the vampire over to your makeup, which is the version to pick if you already know what you're doing with a dark lip. One size, 100% polyester. Same care as the green one: hand wash only, air dry naturally, and store flat between wears.

Cut the hair short and the same dress stops being a witch and starts being 1920s. A black bob with a fringe is the whole change. It's one size, 100% polyester, and sits at jaw length. Our own sizing notes suggest wig pins or a hair net underneath, and here's why we'd bother: a bob has a visible parting, so if the cap moves during the night the parting moves with it. Two minutes of pinning before you go out settles that.

Swap the base layer instead

Sometimes the dress is the wrong garment for the night, not the wrong idea. An unheated hall in late October, or four hours of dancing in something cut for a dinner, and you spend the evening managing the dress rather than wearing it. That's the point to swap the base layer out for a bodysuit instead of adding another thing on top of it.

When a ready-made costume is the easier buy

Buy the whole costume in one order once building the look costs more effort than the dress saves you. Cost isn't the only sum, either. Hubbub and the Fairyland Trust ran a 2019 study that put the number at roughly 7 million UK Halloween costumes binned each year, with 83% of the material sampled turning out to be oil-based plastic, which is the argument for one costume that comes back out of the wardrobe next year.
