A Mrs Claus dress, a reindeer costume, and a classic elf dress: those are the three Christmas party costumes for women we keep in the range, and the night you're dressing for separates them more reliably than the photos do. All three are sized by UK dress size, from 4 to 26, rather than a unisex small, medium, and large, which is the real difference between a women's cut and a recoloured men's Santa suit.

Which Christmas costume suits which do

Match the night first. A sit-down works party asks for something you can wear through dinner; a Santa dash or a pub crawl asks what you can get a coat over; a group photo asks how fast it goes on. The pack column below is what actually arrives in the box: the tights, boots, and face paint in the photos are not part of any of these three sets.

The office Christmas party: Mrs Claus

A works do is mostly sitting down. Two hours at a table, a speech nobody asked for, then the dancing. The Mrs Claus set suits that night: a dress, an apron, and a hat, with nothing to re-pin every time you stand up. Nearly a third of Britons (30%) say they typically attend a Christmas party over the festive period, according to YouGov's 2025 Big Survey on Christmas (YouGov, 2025).

1. Womens Mrs Claus Costume: the classic look, sized 8 to 26

The Womens Mrs Claus Costume is three pieces: a red dress, a green apron, and a matching hat, all 100% polyester. Sizing steps through five bands by UK dress size, Small (8-10), Medium (12-14), Large (16-18), X-Large (20-22), and XX-Large (24-26), and the listing publishes chest, waist, and hip measurements against them. It goes on as one dress, so there's no skirt and top to size separately, and the polyester holds its shape across a season of wears rather than one night.

Outdoors in the cold: reindeer for a Santa dash or pub crawl

Outdoors is where fancy dress gets found out. A Santa dash at nine in the morning, twenty minutes on the pavement between two pubs, a taxi queue at midnight: the reindeer costume is built for that: the antlers do the work, and there's nothing that has to come off to get a coat on. Liverpool's Santa Dash alone brought 11,100 Santas to its 5K and 1K routes in December 2025, which organisers called the biggest festive 5K fun run in the UK (Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, 2025).

December in England averages a daytime high of only around 7 to 8°C (Met Office, 1991 to 2020 average), so none of the three costumes on this page is warm enough on its own. We'd rather say that plainly than sell a costume as outerwear: plan the coat first, wear it over the top for the walk, and take it off once you're through the door.

2. Womens Reindeer Costume: dress, tail, choker, and antlers in one set

The Womens Reindeer Costume is a spotted brown dress with the tail already attached, plus an antler headband and a matching choker, in 100% polyester that stays soft and breathable across a full night. Four sizes by UK dress size, small (4-6) to x-large (16-18); take the larger band if you're between two. The antler headband is built to stay put through a full evening, the part of most animal costumes that gives up first. Tights and boots are yours to supply; they're in the photos, not the box.

Fast to put on: the classic elf

Some invitations land on the Wednesday. Or the group photo is at six and you're getting changed in the office loos with four minutes to spare. The elf dress is the one to keep for those: three pieces, no props.

Womens Classic Elf Costume: sleeveless green velvet-look mini dress with a red pointed collar, three white pom-poms down the bodice, a black belt with a gold buckle, and a jagged zigzag hem with small gold bells, worn with a matching green and red elf hat

3. Womens Classic Elf Costume: three pieces, no props

The Womens Classic Elf Costume is a red and green dress with a jester hem, a black belt, and a matching elf hat, in 100% polyester. Three sizes by UK dress size: small (4-6), medium (8-10), and large (12-14). The belt is the part doing the real work: it adjusts to define the waist across the size range, so the dress isn't relying on a seam landing exactly where your waist is.

Mrs Claus or Miss Santa: what's the difference?

Mrs Claus and Miss Santa are two different looks, not one costume under two names. Mrs Claus is the longer, traditional character costume with an apron and a hat; Miss Santa, or a Santa dress, usually means a shorter red party dress with a Santa hat and nothing else. Retailers use both names loosely, and Mrs Santa and Ms Claus get attached to the same looks as well, so read the pack list rather than the title before you order.

Mrs Claus is also the name people search: on our own site, Mrs Claus searches alone outnumber every generic "women's Christmas costume" phrasing put together, by nearly two to one over the past twelve months. If that's the look already in your head, searching the name is the faster route to the right page.

Mrs Claus also has her own history, separate from Santa's suit: the American poet Katharine Lee Bates gave her a voice and personality of her own in the 1880s poem "Goody Santa Claus on a Sleigh Ride", building on a Mrs Claus literary tradition already over a decade old by then (Maura Ives, The Conversation, 2021). She was never the men's suit in a smaller size, and ours follows that: cut and sized as its own dress, finished with the green apron the Santa suit never had.

Comfortable for a full party: fit and fabric

Comfort across four or five hours is a sizing problem before it's a fabric one. A costume a size out is uncomfortable in polyester or in anything else, and no amount of good fabric rescues it.

Every MorphCostumes costume goes through over 30 measurement checks, done at the prototype stage. It's dull work, and on this range it shows up as five separate size bands on the Mrs Claus dress and four on the reindeer, rather than one label stretched over both.

The elf dress is the only one with an adjustable belt; the Mrs Claus and reindeer dresses rely on their size charts instead, the Mrs Claus one down to chest, waist, and hip measurements, and both give the same steer we would: take the larger band if you're between two. Across the three, sizing runs UK 4 to 26.

Washing and caring for a Christmas costume

All three costumes take a cold hand wash and an air dry, never a washing machine or a tumble dryer. The separate pieces are why: the Mrs Claus apron and hat, the reindeer choker, and the elf belt all wash better by hand than tumbled with everything else. Deal with a spilled drink the same night; polyester forgives most things, but not a stain left to dry in.

Frequently asked questions

Are the women's Christmas costumes comfortable for a full party?

Yes, as long as the size is right. Every costume here goes through over 30 measurement checks, done at the prototype stage, and the elf dress has a belt that adjusts the waist across its range; the Mrs Claus and reindeer dresses rely on their size charts instead, so check one before you order.

What is the difference between Mrs Claus and Miss Santa?

Mrs Claus is the longer, traditional look with an apron and a hat; Miss Santa, or a Santa dress, is usually a shorter red party dress with a Santa hat and nothing else. This page covers the Mrs Claus look; the Santa dresses and the classic Santa suits sit elsewhere in our Christmas costume range.

What size are the women's Christmas party costumes?

All three are sized by UK dress size, and the bands differ: the Mrs Claus dress runs five, 8-10 to 24-26; the reindeer costume runs four, 4-6 to 16-18; and the elf dress runs three, 4-6 to 12-14. No one costume covers UK 4 to 26, so check the size chart on the product page you're actually buying from, and take the larger band if you fall between two.

Will a Christmas costume keep me warm outdoors, like at a Santa dash?

Not on its own. December in England averages a daytime high of only around 7 to 8°C (Met Office, 1991 to 2020 average), so plan a coat over the top of any of these three for a Santa dash or a walk between pubs, and take it off once you're inside. The reindeer costume is built for an outdoor night: there's nothing that has to come off to get a coat on, and the antler headband is built to stay put through a full evening.

How do I wash a Christmas party costume?

A cold hand wash and an air dry, never a washing machine or a tumble dryer. Wash the separate pieces, the apron, hat, choker, and belt, by hand and gently, and deal with any mark the same night rather than letting it dry in.

What's included in the Mrs Claus costume set?

Three pieces: a red dress, a green apron, and a matching hat, all 100% polyester, worn as one dress with no separate skirt or top. Tights, shoes, and anything else in the photos are your own.

That's the three, and the reasons behind each. If your December throws up a night none of them fits, the rest of the season is in our Christmas costume and fancy dress range, and the kids' Christmas costumes cover whoever is coming along under age. We make your best times better with costumes.
