DISNEY THEMED KIDS PARTIES

Every parent wants to throw an unforgettable party for their kid and what better way to add some magic and sparkle to proceedings than with a Disney theme. From the depths of the oceans to the icy North via the African plains, there's no enchanted land that Disney hasn't exploited. And by reaching into Disney's treasure trove of characters and stories, you can transform even the most simple kids party into something truly special (a bit like the Fairy Godmother did for Cinderella).

OLD CLASSIC vs NEW RELEASE

So which Disney ‘brand or film' should you go for? Only you know your childs' particular tastes, but if you're at a loss, or don't know your Tangled from

your Toy Story, as a general rule preschoolers love Mickey and Minnie mouse and the real classics such as Cinderella, Snow White, Peter Pan and

The Jungle Book. Older children willl jump at the chance to dress up as characters from the more modern films including Toy Story, The Incredibles, Cars and Monsters University. And for a fun tween or teen get-together, throw open castle gates, allow guests to mix it up and before you know it, Jack Sparrow will throwing shapes with Mary Poppins on the dance floor.

FROZEN

We can't talk Disney without mentioning Frozen the most successful animated film of all time. Although your ears might be bleeding from enduring countless pitchy renditions of ‘Let it Go', you'd be crazy not to consider Disney's record-breaking film as a theme for your kid's party. This is the current hot choice for girls but boy guests also have the dress up option of nasty Prince Hans, cute Kristoff or at a push, Sven the Reindeer or Olaf the sun-loving snowman. A Frozen party is also ridiculously easy to source extras for, from cakes to candles, plates to party bags.

IT'S A BOY THANG

Don't dismiss Disney as ‘girly'. It's not. For every princess, Disney offers a superhero (Mr Incredible and Frozen) a champion (Captain Jack Sparrow and Buzz Lightyear) or a villain (Captain Hook). Choosing a Disney theme will keep even the most pink-loathing, princess-hating boy happy.

INVITES

Invites set the tone of any party, so its vital that they tie in with your theme. You can find pre-printed invites of Disney's most recent offerings from most high street and online retailers. You can also order personalised Disney invites. If funds are low, you can make your own invitations by cutting and

pasting Disney-inspired free clip-art images from the web. If you want to get really creative, sites like Pinterest are bursting with moodboards and ideas.

DRESS CODE

Only a genuine Disney costume will do for your themed party and Disney kids fancy dress costumes are readily available. For a one-stop shop, go straight to our range of Disney Costumes. A Wild Planet morphsuit will give a nod to a Jungle Book theme or The Wild or Lion King character. If you want to create your own Disney costume try charity shops or plunder your own jewellery box. We love this DIY mini Cruella De Ville from 101 Dalmatians.

ACTIVITIES

For younger party-goers, choose a familiar home or garden setting and simply Disney-fy traditional party games. Try Pin the Tail on the Lion (Lion King geddit). Or Pass the ‘Lamp and Musical ‘Carpets (Aladdin). Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid are perfect themes to adopt if you're considering a swimming party, while Frozen is THE theme for an ice-skating do. For a tween bash, let the Disney fancy dress costumes add a fun twist to a basic disco held in village hall or community centre.

CAKE

Whether youre as talented as Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood put together, or have trouble cracking an egg without serving up the shell, it is possible to produce a fabulous Disney cake. Head straight to Asda, Sainsburys etc, for a ready-to-eat offering. Or bake or buy a plain sponge and use cake toppers to add the personal touch. Small, cheap toy figures will garnish a plain sponge rather nicely. For a super easy solution, buy edible rice-paper toppers and decorate little cupcakes.

Or plunge the legs of a plastic Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Elsa or Cinderella into a bowl shaped sponge, to make a beautiful princess cake.
